There is an income limit to claim a person (other than a qualifying child) as a dependent. If that is the only reason the person does not qualify you can still claim them as a dependent for purposes of the medical expense deduction.

OHH... okay. I understand the question now after your explanation of it - it is a really poorly worded question. I couldn't get the gist of what "except for the amount of gross income" was inferring. Thank you for the clarification.
